 Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha, is undergoing a significant metamorphosis.  Major Infrastructure Developments

Greater Bhubaneswar Project: 

The Odisha government has initiated the Greater Bhubaneswar project, aiming to develop a special economic region encompassing Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, and Paradip, covering an area of 8,500 sq km. This ambitious plan focuses on creating a new city near the capital to accommodate the growing population and stimulate economic growth.

Bhubaneswar Town Centre (BTC) Project:

As part of the Smart City Proposal, the Bhubaneswar Town Centre Project is the city's first planned Transit-Oriented Development. Spread across 12 acres near Master Canteen Square, BTC aims to integrate commercial, residential, and transit facilities, enhancing urban mobility and economic activity.

Baramunda Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT)

The newly inaugurated Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar Bus Terminal at Baramunda is Odisha's largest bus terminal. With a capacity to handle 30,000 passengers and 700-800 buses daily, it features modern amenities, including a wellness center, shopping kiosks, and efficient parking facilities. 

 Sustainable Urban Initiatives

Biogas Plant at Unit-I Market

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) plans to establish a green energy biogas plant at the Unit-I haat, processing three tonnes of organic waste daily. This initiative aims to convert waste into biogas for electricity or thermal energy, promoting sustainable waste management. 

Regulation of Borewell Digging

To combat unregulated groundwater extraction, BMC proposes making official permission mandatory for digging bore wells within city limits. This measure aims to ensure sustainable groundwater use and integrate rainwater harvesting systems in all residential structures.

Housing and Urban Expansion

Inclusion of 143 New Villages

The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) has approved the inclusion of 143 new revenue villages within its jurisdiction. This expansion aims to promote systematic urban growth, enhance infrastructure, and address challenges posed by rapid urbanization. 

 Enhancing Urban Mobility

Ama Bus Service

The Ama Bus service, formerly known as Mo Bus, operates as an intelligent public transport system across Odisha. With a fleet of 405 buses covering 63 routes, it serves as a vital component in improving urban mobility and reducing traffic congestion. 

 Bhubaneswar Metro Project

The proposed Bhubaneswar Metro project has received support from the central government, aiming to provide a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation, further enhancing the city's connectivity and reducing reliance on road transport.
